This course is comprised of two units of competency, which are delivered and assessed in sequence to satisfy pre-requisite requirements. PUASAR022 Participate in a rescue operation This unit of competency involves the skills and knowledge required to participate in rescue operations as a member of a rescue team; it underpins specialist rescue operations. This includes a wide range of rescue and environmental situations which may incorporate industrial, rural, bush and extreme environmental conditions. Typically, personnel performing these roles have completed induction or recruitment training and are commencing work as a member of an operational team. It is applicable to personnel from the emergency services, volunteer organisations and/or associated industries. Prepare and respond to rescue. Contribute to a risk assessment at the scene. Perform rescue. Conclude rescue operations. PUASAR032 Undertake vertical rescue This unit involves the skills and knowledge required to undertake vertical rescues in a range of emergency situations in a natural and manmade environment. It includes a range of vertical rescue situations, preparing and responding to rescue situations, assessing rescue scenes, establishing vertical rescue systems and performing in and terminating rescues. Prepare and respond to vertical rescue. Assess scene. Establish vertical rescue system. Perform vertical rescue. Terminate vertical rescue operations. Upon successful completion of all units, students will develop the skills and knowledge to participate in rescue operations and undertake vertical rescues. They will be able to prepare for and respond to rescue situations, assess risks and scenes, operate rescue systems, perform rescues, and conclude operations safely as part of a rescue team in diverse environments. Career Pathways Career opportunities following completion of this training include roles as firefighter recruits, emergency response team members, workplace safety officers, and rescue operations specialists in industries such as fire services, mining, industrial operations, and emergency management.
